In this story the one thing i think that cost the man his life was being to arrogant. he should have know better than to travel the wood in the cold like that without a group or atlas a partner. He was also dumb in trying to kill the dog because yes he couldn’t use his hand but if he squeezed long enough the dog would have died but i am glad the dog got away because i love dogs but it does suck that a man died because of his own arrogance. It would have made a lot of people mad if he killed the dog and lived because everyone know a days loves animals and other things more than humans and thats where we have failed.

in dunbar’s poem we wear the mask it was for everyone in my opinion but in his day it was probably talking about the african american community. but it affects everyone because no one truly shows exactly who they are to anyone everyone has secrets or a dark side that people don’t know about that is where the mask comes in. Dunbar uses the mask to show everyone hiding their true self and if people today would read this poem and know to take off their mask to be ready dos how the world who they really are it would help everyone in society because everyone thinks that everyone is better than them. If we just took off the mask we would all see we are all crazy and evil deep down. the people with the biggest smiles are always the one who hurt the most on the inside because they wear a mask.

Booker T was a very smart man and wrote a wonderful piece with the Atlanta expedition dress. i think that he would have liked the 1960 movement in how african americans fought for what they believed in. i also feel that he would be proud of all the african america leaders of todays day and time. to see how far african americans have come since the slave days would probably shock him and to see an african american as a president of the untied states of america would have really put him on his butt with amazement in my opinion. I feel that Booker T. would have been highly impressed with all that the african americans accomplished since his time because they fought for equal rights they became big actors they have done every job that a white man has done even being the president he would honestly not know what to think if he saw african americans today.

i loved these stories they were entertaining and comical but they also had a good point to them. what society tries and do is to put icing on everything they want everything to be nice and peachy isn’t of telling it how it is. these stories should still be read in school in my opinion because it shows how no matter what there is always another way out of whatever hole you dug yourself into. I think its good if they start a heated argument the problem now a days is no one says how they really feel because they feel they will be judged our look bad instead of saying exactly how they feel and using their freedom of speech and being their own person and not a puppet to society.

I loved this story it was very interesting to hear the difference in how people talked back in the day but it was also nice to see that people haven’t changed much this story is about a rabbit that does something dumb because he was arrogant but he eventually out smarted the fox i think this is good for people to read because our arrogance can be blinding but just because our backs are against the wall doesn’t mean you can’t outsmart your opponent. The problem is society has changed the way this book was supposed to be interpreted. they see it as bad when they should see it as not matter how hard a situation is there is always a way to get ahead of your opponent. I think this story is very good in explaining race and class because you see the rabbit isn’t high class but he still struts his stuff because he isn’t any less than the fox.

In most literature there is a deeper meaning an in some of the books or short stories you will find racism or violence or oppressed people. in the book the outsiders you see a boy murder another kid now they didn’t ban this book for murder because its a good book but it was violent and cruel. I personally don’t see why you would ban a book or a movie or anything of that nature because some people may want to learn about different stuff then what society tells them they need to know. The problem is society tells people they can’t read that and society holds a voice in the people with power and they ban something to try and keep everyone happy. This is wrong because someone spent good time and effort on that piece for people to be able to read and enjoy and not everyone has the same taste in literature as overs.

Heroism is something pure i don’t think it is accidental in the situation of the guy in the story that wasn’t an accident that he turned around it was heroic and brave of him. true heroism is something that comes naturally you can’t plan it and you can make it happen its putting someone else above yourself in that moment. I believe that everyone has a heroic moment in their life because they put someone else before their self. Most people don’t get a medal or anything from their heroic act like in the military. Some people don’t think the guy in the story did anything heroic but he did to me because he turned around in the middle of a battle to help a dying man yes he just drowned the dude with water but the man died with water in him and had someone by his side at the end of his life.

I have been in the same situation as Caline was because one time i wanted to play a sport. I told my mom i wanted to play a sport but i was to young for football so she signed me up for soccer. I absolutely hated soccer it was terrible. I really wanted to play football but was to impatient to wait another year to play football. Looking back i wished i would have just waited because i would come home crying and want to skip practice i didn’t help the team any because i didn’t want to be there. Caline was in a bad situation because she wanted to find the boy when she thought she wanted to see the city. It is very sad that she left home to go to the city when thats not exactly what she wanted. I feel that our minds play tricks on us by making us think we want something when we actually want something completely different.

My granny reminds me a lot of Mrs. sommers because she is a mother women. My granny has always had three boys her two sons and my grandpa and she took care of them and never left the house until the two boys were out on their own and my grandpa had passed away. She did the same thing Mrs. summers did she went and enjoyed herself. She goes on cruise and buys things just because. I am truly happy for Mrs. summers it has to be hard having your whole life revolve around everyone else and getting to spend a day by yourself doing a little something and rewarding your hard work is very nice. I hope everyone understand she was being a little selfish but thats because she is always selfless.

Part of me doesn’t like this story because it is talking about a wife and a husband who cheated on there significant other. On the other hand I understand the reasoning. The wife Calixta did it because her and her husband always sleep with the ba y in the room so there isn’t very much alone time so they don’t get to have the physical love they deserve. Alcee did it because him and his wife were very happy and she was away at the time. I personally feel that Alcee and Calixta will not have another encounter it was a one time thing. I feel this because once they did it they were both a lot more loving towards there significant other. They also only did it because of the situation granted Alcee might have rode over there for that reason Calixta didn’t have that in her plans. Both Alcee and Calixta did what they did but it ended up working out for everyone because now everyone is happy.
